Standard 1:1 Guanella Balun: SRG+SRB Hybrid Balun
THIS is my original Hybrid-Balun developed in 2015 during my "Battle of Baluns' Field Test. It is my "Stake-in-the-Ground" to which I will compare other balun combinations during this project.
It is mounted on my universal backplane which enables easy swapping of the different baluns.
Long Leg (1) as shown in the photo is only 'part' of the long leg. The solder lug (bottom left) connects to the antenna's "RMU", followed by another approximately 20 meters of wire. These are not shown in the photo.
Note: After shooting the photo, I wrapped each of the baluns with a few layers of electrical tape for temporarily securing them during the Field Test.
ANTENNA MEASUREMENTS:
THESE are my "stake-in-the-ground" standard measurements that I will compare all 14 other Hybrid-Balun antenna measurements to.
Note: It is absolutely necessary to cut the antenna such that minimum SWR on 80m is below the band at about 3.450 MHz. Otherwise, minimum SWR on the higher harmonic bands will be outside (above) the band. I can adjust 80m resonance independent of the other bands, centering it anywhere I wish, using a capacitor-resistor combination in the middle of the antenna. This is shown as "RMU" in the drawing.
The exact details of each of these measurements may be examined using the freeware software "AntScope-2".
If you prefer a different software, you can download the
.s1p or the
.csv files of these measurements.
I prefer the AntScope-2 software and recommend you use this program if you want to discuss this with me.

NOTE: Throughout this section of my web, whenever I state the value of the Common Mode Impedance of chokes or balun, it is based on the values shown in the color charts by Steve Hunt, G3TXQ (SK), published on his web, here: G3TXQ: RF-Chokes
